Selection Criteria and Eligibility

Points, rebounds, and assists are of no value in determining the recipient of the Club Trillion Foundation Scholarship. After all, our foundation’s namesake is built on not making an impact on the court at all.

Instead, our committee of 11 former NCAA Division I walk-ons will be looking at the ways the applicant has flourished off the court while managing the challenges that come with being a non-scholarship athlete. This will be different for every individual - locker room impact, outstanding work in the community, academic excellence, etc. Below are the criteria with which our committee will assess.

Note: The inaugural Club Trillion Foundation Scholarship is only available for NCAA Division I men’s basketball players who have an anticipated graduation date of 2020 or beyond and are not already receiving an athletic-based scholarship. Future years of the award will include additional sports.

Non-Basketball
Attributes

These include but are not limited to:

  • The applicant’s overall character

  • Community service

  • Academics

Basketball
Attributes

These include but are not limited to:

  • The applicant’s work ethic

  • Instances of leadership demonstrated by the applicant

  • The degree to which the applicant is revered by his teammates

Financial
Need

Applicants are required to disclose pertinent financial information, including the balance of their outstanding loans, other scholarships they have been awarded, and the annual cost of tuition and room and board to attend their college or university.

Due to NCAA rules, the Club Trillion Foundation Scholarship can only be paid out by applying the funds to a pre-existing outstanding student loan balance. Thus, with all else equal, priority shall be given to applicants with the highest outstanding student loan balance.

Walk-On Experience

These include but are not limited to:

  • How many seasons the applicant has been a member of a Division I basketball team

  • How many seasons the applicant has been a non-scholarship player on a Division I basketball team

With all else equal, priority shall be given to applicants closest to exhausting their NCAA eligibility.
